Night 1: Arrival in Arusha

Nights 2–3: Tarangire National Park

ABTA protection means your holiday arrangements, financial payments and support throughout your trip are safeguarded under the ABTA code. Should your tour operator fail, ABTA steps in to help you return home or resume your itinerary.

2. What is ATOL protection?

ATOL (Air Travel Organiser’s Licence) protects your flights and flight-inclusive holiday bookings. If your airline or travel company collapses, the Civil Aviation Authority covers your repatriation and refunds unused services.

3. When is the best time to visit Tanzania and Zanzibar?

The peak safari season runs June–October for game viewing during the dry months. November offers fewer crowds and lush landscapes. Zanzibar’s dry season (June–October) is ideal for beach escapes, though the island offers warm weather year-round.

4. Is this safari family-friendly?

Yes. Our lodges and camps welcome children aged 6 and above on safari and 5 and above on Bawe Island. Private transfers and flexible itineraries ensure a stress-free family holiday.

5. What wildlife can I expect to see?

6. Are vegetarian and dietary requirements catered for?

7. How fit do I need to be?

Game drives involve minimal walking; vehicles are comfortable and air-conditioned. Some lodges have uneven terrain—moderate mobility is required. Let us know of any mobility needs in advance.

8. What’s the baggage allowance?

International flights with Kenya Airways allow 23kg checked baggage and 7kg hand luggage. Light aircraft and road transfers limit checked baggage to 15kg per person. Soft-sided bags are recommended.

9. How do I pay and secure my booking?

A deposit of £500 per person secures your booking. The balance is due 10 weeks before departure. Payments by credit card, bank transfer or cheque are accepted.

10. Can I extend my stay or add activities?

Yes. Louise and Scott can tailor your trip with spa days in Zanzibar, cultural tours in Stone Town, or beach villa upgrades. Just ask for a customised quote.

Day 1: Arrival and the Lush Paradise of Lake Manyara

Your African epic begins the moment you land at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO). You’ll be warmly greeted by our representative and introduced to your expert driver-guide, who will be your companion for the safari portion of your journey. Settle into your private, comfortable 4×4 safari vehicle and begin the scenic drive towards Lake Manyara. The transition from the bustling airport to the serene landscapes of the Great Rift Valley is a spectacle in itself. Your destination is the magnificent Lake Manyara Kilimamoja Lodge, perched on the rim of the Great Rift Valley with breathtaking views over Lake Manyara below.

The Ngorongoro Crater is the world’s largest intact and unfilled volcanic caldera, a 2,000-foot-deep, 100-square-mile natural amphitheater that hosts a staggering density of wildlife.

You’ll check into the Ngorongoro Oldeani Mountain Lodge, a colonial-style lodge set on a picturesque hill with spectacular views of the crater highlands. After settling in, the main event awaits. You will descend the steep crater walls to the floor for an extensive game drive.

What is the difference between ABTA and ATOL protection?

This is a crucial question for any traveller. ATOL (Air Travel Organiser’s Licence) protects you when you book a package holiday that includes flights. If the travel company goes out of business, ATOL ensures you are not stranded abroad and won’t lose your money. ABTA (Association of British Travel Agents) provides protection for non-flight-based holidays, such as cruises or rail holidays. As we provide flight-inclusive packages, we offer both, giving you the most comprehensive financial protection available.

What is the best time of year to travel to Tanzania?

Tanzania is a fantastic year-round destination, but the best time depends on what you want to see. The dry season, from late June to October, is peak season for wildlife viewing as animals congregate around water sources. The travel period for this offer, March, is at the end of the ‘short rains’ and beginning of the ‘long rains’. It’s a ‘green season’ with lush landscapes, fewer crowds, and many newborn animals. It’s a beautiful time to visit.

Are visas required for UK citizens?

Yes, British passport holders require a visa to enter Tanzania. This can typically be obtained online in advance through the official Tanzanian immigration website or, in some cases, upon arrival. We strongly recommend applying for an e-visa beforehand to ensure a smooth entry process. We can provide guidance on this.

What vaccinations are recommended?

We advise consulting your GP or a travel clinic at least 8 weeks before your departure. They can provide the most up-to-date advice on recommended vaccinations, which may include Hepatitis A, Tetanus, and Typhoid. Anti-malaria medication is also strongly recommended for all safari areas and Zanzibar.

What does ‘full board’ and ‘all-inclusive’ mean?

Full Board (during your safari) includes your accommodation and three meals per day (breakfast, lunch, and dinner). Drinks are usually extra. All-Inclusive (in Zanzibar) includes your accommodation, all meals, and a wide range of locally branded alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. Specific inclusions can vary by resort, but it offers a more carefree experience.

How strenuous are the game drives?

Game drives are not physically strenuous as you are seated in the vehicle for the duration. However, days can be long, starting early for the best wildlife viewing. The roads within the parks can be bumpy and dusty, which is all part of the authentic safari experience! The vehicles are comfortable and designed for these conditions, but it’s something to be aware of.

Can this itinerary be customized?

Absolutely! This itinerary is a suggestion based on what we know creates a fantastic trip. However, our specialty is bespoke travel.
